I have expertise in Urban Planning, Business Management and Tourism, and can provide assistance on related services and projects. Please learn more below about the specific services I have provided previously and how they can apply to your needs.
Urban Planning Services
-
I conducted site observation research and completed several studies to prepare for a new facility development and the creation of a new campus plan for Dalhousie University and can assist with data compilation for long term infrastructure planning.
-
I maintained and added to Dalhousie University’s extensive ArcGIS campus maps, assisted with the launch of ArcGIS Indoors and used ArcGIS extensively on projects such as the one shown in the image and video. As a result I am able to meet basic to advanced mapping needs and am happy to learn more as needed.
-
I show my ability to compile and use historical records to discover long-term trends and issues affecting planning, in order to produce recommendations for today. Seen in my “A Tale of Two Commons” Report on the projects page.
-
I have participated in multiple site development projects that demonstrated profitable and affordable housing options for developers, and projects aimed at providing affordable housing recommendations for several municipalities in Nova Scotia. As such I can help with site development recommendations or municipal housing policy recommendations.
-
I have created projects that recommended options for new public transportation infrastructure (Bus Rapid Transit) in Halifax. As a result I understand where development should be located, and how to research and recommend new public transit routes and infrastructure.
-
I have completed several projects that have looked at public space and green space planning and know how to improve or preserve the spaces for community wellbeing or to attract tourism.
Business Services
-
I have worked as the International Arrivals Coordinator and as a Graduate Admissions Officer for Algoma University and worked as an Inventory Management Specialist on a large financial project for one of Ireland’s largest legal firms. In these roles I completed large projects with colleagues and facilitated the receipt of large volumes of digital and physical data. Furthermore I have assisted with the launch of new graduate programs at Algoma University. As a result I am well experienced in developing efficient data collection systems and strategies.
-
Through my enumerator and International Arrivals Coordinator roles I have regularly responded to a significant number of stakeholder inquiries (often receiving hundreds of emails daily) and am used to hosting informational events, meeting with clients, and exercising diplomacy in person to ensure stakeholders abide by legislative requirements. Furthermore I am experienced with sending newsletters, formal communications, organizing events and setting up website content. Through these experiences I am able to develop communication plans, publications and respond to issues effectively.
-
I have compiled complex data for reporting purposes (such as quarantine plans, vaccination information, graduate applications) and drastically reduced time costs through automation and the creation of data collection processes. In my Inventory Manager and IAC roles for example I was able to determine and implement efficiencies using automation that reduced personal and team workloads (and wage cost) by likely half.
Tourism Services
-
I’ve spent 2-years abroad, taken over 100 international trips, and spent significant time living in several cities foreign and domestic. I’ve additionally visited over 30 countries, went on a 2-month solo back-packing trip and wrote a travel book and as a result have plenty of insight when it comes to tourism attraction and potential and our region’s unique offering.
You can see my trips through my personal travel books/diaries for 1) Studying in Spain, 2) Working in Ireland, and 3) Backpacking Europe, to get an idea of my experiences.
-
In a professional and volunteer capacity I have welcomed hundreds of international students to the Sault as the International Arrivals Coordinator for Algoma University (AU) and hosted many tourism related events and tours as AU’s International Office Assistant. I also assisted with the AU Homestay program and overall understand what local attractions appeal to foreign visitors and their concerns when arriving to Sault Ste. Marie
-
I have taken a key interest in public space development and how it facilitates tourism and conducted some studies on improving public spaces (such as my Halifax Boardwalk improvement study).

While not a licensed travel advisor, I can provide general advice on travelling and have done so through my work-in-progress travel book “Answering the Call to Adventure” filled with advice for first time travelers.
